Autumn backed away from the door and continued to her mother’s room. “Mom,” Autumn said again as she knocked on the door. She opened it and found her mother still in her scrubs, fast asleep on top of her bed. Autumn smiled as she dropped her purse on the ground and walked over to her mother. She bent down to take off her mother’s crocs and socks. She then pulled her pants down and struggled to take off her mother’s shirt. Autumn grabbed the lotion off her mother’s dresser and lotion her mother’s legs and feet. She grabbed the quilt her mother kept in her closet and pulled it over her. Autumn kissed her mother on the forehead and turned on the ceiling fan as she walked out.

  Autumn knew her mother worked hard just to provide for her daughters. Autumn’s father died when Autumn was still in the womb. Her mother told her that he was killed in a drive-by. Tori’s father was around a short time later. But then he disappeared. It wasn’t until Autumn was older did, she finds out the reason why. Tori’s dad was married. He didn’t even stay in the same city.   Dina could have shut down and given up, but she didn’t. With the help of her mother, Dina was able to accomplish something she thought was impossible. Autumn couldn’t have been prouder of her mom. It was also one of the reasons why Autumn stayed focus all through high school. Yes, she missed out on proms and dances, but she was preparing for her future. A future where she became a doctor and took care of her mom as a thank you for all the things her mom has done for her.

  Autumn walked downstairs and set the alarm as she exited out the house.   BLESSINGS SAT DOWN on the stool in the AT&T store and sighed. She had been trying to upgrade her phone for the past two days, but Avery was always busy with Yvonne. Since he was now free, Blessings decided today was the day they caught up on everything while she got her phone since she was on his plan.

  “You could have just put me down as an authorized user so you wouldn’t have to come,” Blessings whined as Avery was looking down at his phone.

  “So, you can open up all types of lines on my account,” Avery said as he looked up at her. He spoiled the shit out of Blessings and now she was a pain in the ass with it. “I’m good.”

  Blessings rolled her eyes as she looked at the cases for the phone she was getting. She wanted the works. A new case with a screen protector and a new charger. Even though the phone came with a charger, Blessings likes to buy a spare one. Can never have enough wires.

  Blessings looked towards the entrance of the store when she heard a familiar voice. She was surprised to see it was Autumn. “Hey, Autumn,” Blessings called out. Autumn looked to see who was calling her name and smiled when she saw it was Blessings.

  “Hey,” Autumn said as she walked over. “What are you doing here?”

  “Getting a new phone,” Blessings said. “This is my cousin Avery by the way.” Blessings hit Avery on his shoulders causing him to look up. His heart melted when he saw who it was.

  “Autumn Coleman,” Avery said in a flirtatious tone. The way he said her name caused Autumn to blush. “Here to get that phone fixed?”

  Blessings looked at Autumn then at Avery. “You know her,” she asked Avery. Avery nodded his head as he continues to take in Autumn’s beauty.   “Miss Coleman,” a sales rep asked as she looked around the room. Autumn quickly raised her hand.

  “Well since you not going to take the money back, let me take you out to eat,” Autumn asked Avery. She decided to go out on a whim and ask him out. Both Blessings and Avery’s eyes got big.   Avery chuckled. “You got that big spender.”

  Autumn gave him a smile as she walked off to see about her phone. “Yall is cute,” Blessings teased as she looked at her cousin. “You should try to ask her out after yall date tonight.”

  Avery looked at Blessings and groaned. “But I’m not.”

  “What? Why?”

  Avery shrugged his shoulders. “I just broke up with my fiancée yesterday. How would I look getting with a girl soon afterwards? I need time to breath and rethink things.”

  Blessings scoffed. “First of all, who cares what people think? Second of all, that bitch cheated on you and is now sleeping in your aunt’s basement with your ain't shit ass cousin. You deserve happiness and if Autumn makes you happy, then go for it. You act like I’m telling you to marry the girl right now.” Blessings looked up when she saw the sales rep walk up with her new phone. Blessings smile grew big when the lady handed her the box.

  “Will you be needing anything else,” the sales rep asked Blessings.

  Blessings nodded as she handed her the phone cases and screen protector she had been picked out. “Here is my card,” Blessings said as she reached for her purse. Avery slapped Blessings hand as he handed the lady his card. “I could have paid for that.”

  “I’m feeling generous right now,” Avery said as he grabbed Blessings new iPhone out of her hand. “Now you better call Priest and make up.”

  Blessings rolled her eyes. “Priest can go sit down somewhere. I don’t have time for the bullshit.” Avery looked at Blessings like she suddenly grew another head. “I’m serious. You know I’m big on communication and trust. I was worried sick about him.”

  “But you act like my man cheated,” Avery said as he handed her the phone back. “Just give that man a chance to explain. Because right now, your punishment doesn’t fit the crime.”

  “It does too.” Blessings poked out her tongue but deep down she felt where Avery was coming from. She was going overboard like she caught Priest fucking another chick. He just went out of town and didn’t tell her. Hell, she doubted if he cheated on her with bitch on his trip. He was loyal to her and always kept it real with her.

  “Fine,” Blessings said as the sales lady was walking back with Blessings bag of goodies. “I will talk to him as long as you think about what I just said.” Blessings held out her hand and Avery slowly shook it.

  Chapter 4

  Blessings enter her apartment and threw her purse on the sofa. She grabbed her new cell phone out of her back pocket to let Avery know she had made it inside safely. After they had went to AT&T, they decided to grab a bite to eat at Panda’s Express. It didn’t take Blessings long to feel how lonely she was until she stepped foot into her apartment. She had been spending the last few days by her mother’s house. But now that Yvonne and Mark were in the basement, Blessings decided it was time for her to g
o back home. She hoped that Priest wasn’t home as she made her way into the bedroom. The bed was still the same way she left it. Blessings sighed as she sat down. It was taking everything in her to not give in and call him. She missed him terribly. But she had her principles. She had to follow them. Her mother made sure that Blessings wasn’t out here in these streets acting ratchet behind a man that’s wasn’t even worth the drama.

  Blessings stripped out of her clothes as she headed to the bathroom. She turned the shower on and sat on the toilet seat as she waited for the water to reach the desired temperature.   “Ok, see you later, hunny,” Dina said, not turning around from the stove. Tori continued to gawk at Autumn’s appearance. Autumn was wearing a short black skirt with black thigh boots. She had rounded out her look with a red crop top t-shirt. Her gold hoop earrings and gold chain only brought out the outfit more.

  “Where is you going,” Tori asked. “Mom, you see what your favorite child is wearing?” Dina turned around to see and a look of shock spread across her face. Her daughter was wearing the hell out of that skirt.

  “Tell her to change,” Tori said as she waited for Dina to say something. Autumn was about to tell Tori to mind her business, but her mother beat her to the punch.

  “You look beautiful, baby,” Dina said as she grabbed a seat at the kitchen table. “Don’t do anything to jeopardize your future.”

  Autumn gave her mother a smile as she said her good-byes. Once she was in the car, Autumn sent Avery a quick text to let him know she was on the way. >   Autumn parked in the parking of Loft 18 and took the elevator to the second floor. When she exited off the elevator, she was shocked to see it was empty except for the few employees in attendance. Autumn immediately found Avery. He was playing a golf game by the projection screens.

  “Where is everybody,” Autumn asked Avery when he saw that she had arrived. He smiled as he led her to a table that was made up with candles.

  “I brought the place for the night,” Avery said, smoothly. Brought it? Autumn looked at him like what he just said didn’t make sense.

  “But why?”

  “This is our first date,” Avery replied as he sat down next to her. Autumn’s heart began to race when she smelled his cologne. It was still so intoxicating. It made her heart do a back flip and caused her to close her legs tighter when she felt like something was tickling her vagina.

  Autumn bit her lip as she blushed profusely. He reached out and pulled a strand of hair behind her ear. Autumn giggled as she grabbed for her water again. “Did you order the food,” she asked. She suddenly wanted him to do more and she knew she couldn’t. That wasn’t the type of woman she wanted to be. But damn if Avery wasn’t making it hard.

  “Yea, it’s about to come out now,” Avery said. He decided to sit across from Autumn, seeing how her warm toned face was turning pink. He was kind of relieved that she was feeling him just as much as he was feeling her. He couldn’t get her out of his head for anything in the world. Her smile was bright as the sun and Avery found himself suddenly wanting to be a part of her world. He wanted to see that smile every day.
